Welcome to part 2 of The Three Most Important Things in Life: A Year In Review. As we discussed in last week’s podcast, there are 3 things that satan will attack the most: your walk with God, your relationships, and your health.
This week, we are focusing on health. When life is difficult, it’s tempting to abandon healthy living. We may succumb to fast food, skip workouts, or give in to other unhealthy “shortcuts.” But if we do, even temporarily, it will be harder to get back on track. How can you stay healthy in a busy season?
This August, we discovered how truly hectic life could become. In fact, we feel like we lived 5 years in the space of one month! But we stayed on track with all the important things including our health. How did we do it? As Mama Z loves to say, Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance!
This week, we discuss the 7 buckets that are vital for good health and how to improve and move forward in all of those areas as best you can. We’ll share tips on how we kept healthy this summer even on our busiest days. Are you ready to protect your health from getting derailed by busyness, difficulties or the schemes of the enemy? Then join us for today’s podcast!

Quotable Quotes
“There are three important things in life. Those things will be attacked by the enemy when you’re trying to serve God, regardless of where you’re at in life.” – Dr. Z“It is impossible to have good mental and emotional function, sleep well and soundly, and have a functioning immune system if your house is off-gassing toxic chemicals.”– Dr. Z“To focus on balance in all of these areas is the struggle but we know that without struggle, there’s no progress.” – Mama Z
“If we are pushing forward in each one of those areas and trying to do better than we did yesterday, then we’re going to become better and our life is going to become more balanced. And that’s the goal.“Try to spend some time with kids, because kids know how to have fun. That’s what they do for a living. They’re professionals at it.” – Dr. Z

[0:00-1:43] Prelude to the most important things
Dr. Z: I mean you do what you can afford. But the bottom line is . . .
Mama Z: It’s an over time thing. You know, you have to work with the budget that you have. And we can give you strategies that we’ve done over the years. But these things are things that help us live as controlled of a lifestyle that we can over the things that we have control over.
Dr. Z: And trust me on this, it is impossible, and this supersedes faith. I’m just telling you, there’s an element where God has put us on a planet that has laws, like gravity, right? If your faith says that you can fly, well I’ll see you in Heaven, if you’re going to jump off a building, right? Please, don’t be an idiot. So, you can’t pray (and Chris is laughing), you can’t pray over your McDonalds and ask God to make it into a health food. He’s not going to do it, right? I can just hear people say, “Lord.” So, don’t even waste your time.
When it comes to the air that you breathe, I promise you, it is impossible to have good mental and emotional function, to sleep well and soundly, and have a good immune system if your house has mold in it, if your house has gas and toxic chemicals, and if your house is filled with aerosols and plug-ins and things. I’m telling you, it’s physically, neurologically, it’s physiologically impossible for your body to overcome that, to experience true health and wellness.
[1:44-2:09] Intro about the most important things
Dr. Z: Hi! This is Dr. Z.
Mama Z: And Mama Z. And welcome to episode 36 of the Natural Living Family podcast.
Dr. Z: Each week we invite you to our home to talk about how you can master the art and science of natural living. And we share the same tips our family uses each and every day to enjoy an abundant life. And you’re going to love today’s talk.
Mama Z: So, come on in and get comfortable. After all, you’re one of the family, our natural living family.
[2:10 – 3:41] Sponsor Spotlight: Hope for Breast Cancer
Dr. Z: But before we dive into all the fun, we’re excited to invite you to a special event.
Mama Z: Within the past few years, we’ve lost Eric’s grandma, as well as my aunt, brother-in-law, and one of my best friends to various forms of cancer.
Dr. Z: All the while, several of our closest friends and family members received that horrifying diagnosis everyone dreads to hear.
Mama Z: So, we’ve decided to partner with our friends at Cancer Tutor to do our part to help you not go through what we’ve experienced.
Dr. Z: For the past eighteen months, Natural Living Family and Cancer Tutor have been busy working on a film project to bring awareness to people that there is truly hope for cancer. We sponsored a stage 2 breast cancer patient to receive non-toxic therapies for one year and have documented her progress along the way.
Mama Z: This story gives a candid look at her journey through integrative cancer treatments. And we want to give you a special access pass to watch the movie before we submit it to film festivals and online streaming services.
Dr. Z: We cordially invite you to a special screening of the global premiere that will air this coming November 6.
Mama Z: Simply go to HopeforBreastCancer.com (that’s h-o-p-e-f-o-r breast cancer, dot com) to reserve your spot today. And you’ll get instant access to some of the behind the scenes footage and some other amazing goodies.
Dr. Z: We believe there is hope for breast cancer. And we invite you on our mission to helping stop this epidemic.
[3:42-8:24] Topic Intro & Diffuser Reveal – About the most important things
Dr. Z: Well, hello there everyone! This is part two of the three most important things in life, a year in review, episode 36. Wow! I really enjoyed episode 35.
Mama Z: Me, too.
Dr. Z: Oh, you didn’t say much.
Mama Z: But you were on a roll, and I try to not cut you off when you’re on a roll.
Dr. Z: I was on a roll.
Mama Z: You know, I put my little things in. And I put a bunch of notes down the whole time that I wrote in my phone and notes that I wrote on my notepad here of different things to interject last time and this time. But it’s important, I feel, like when you are on a roll to like let you go.
Dr. Z: Thank you! Hallelujah! Yea, we’re still on the roll. We’re still in the flow. This is wonderful, because we actually recorded this without a big break in-between. We often times take like an hour plus break between shows or days or weeks, depending on what it is. Well, this is a quick potty break, and we’re back at it. So, it’s like God, I feel, has anointed us for this. This is such a special, important topic.
And just a quick recap, everybody. We have lived–I don’t know what to equate it to–three, four, five years of life in 2019 so far. I know it’s like middle of September. We’re actually recording this the very beginning of September.
Mama Z: And not to say y’all don’t have a lot of stuff going on in your life. We just have had a lot of experiences, which is making us able to connect with so many of you on so many different levels because of what we have going on.
Dr. Z: And it just dawned on me. I mean it’s, again, I guess to go back to episode 35. I don’t want to repeat myself. But please, please listen to episode 35. That will really set the context to what we’re going to talk about today. But this year has just been, I’ve never experienced anything like it. I mean, yea, we’ve had a lot going on. But it’s been like, “Wow!” I mean I don’t know what else we could fit in this year.
And I do know what else we’ve got to fit. We’ve got to fit a whole documentary. It’s like, “How are we going to fit this in? And how are we going to fit in more TV, and Sabrina’s Santa school trip, and family trips. It’s just like, “Praise God! I am overflowing.” The Bible says, “Your cup will overflow.” Well, I am overflowing over here. And our lives have been overflowing.
And here’s the thing. What have we learned? And we have learned there are three important things, the three most important things in life. Number one is your walk with God. Number two is your relationship with others. Number three is your health.
And the three most important things in life are those things that will be most attacked by the enemy. This warrants a repeat. The three most important things in your life are those things that will be most attacked by the enemy. So, you need to expect and be prepared for an attack, right?
And that’s what episode 35 was about. We covered our walk with God. We covered our relationship with others. I think we will wrap up the bow on the relationship with others in part 2. And then we’re really going to focus on our health. But before we do, what’s in our diffuser.
Mama Z: So, we talked a little bit about building up your immunity. And our immunity blend, as we have mentioned, our own version of an immunity blend, not just on our website, but also in our book. And so, for this one I wanted to make sure that we did the one exactly like what’s in The Healing Power of Essential Oils. So, with this one, we have orange, cinnamon leaf, lemon, rosemary, clove, eucalyptus, and frankincense in that.
Dr. Z: I love it! I love it!
Mama Z: And the frankincense really does make a difference.
Dr. Z: Yea, it is really nice.
Mama Z: To have a couple of good ones to go back and forth from is really important, because we want to keep the effectiveness. And, you know, the fall, not that you’re not around a lot of people other times of the year, but when kids go back to school and all of that, and all of the activities start back up, you’re just in the presence of other unfamiliar surroundings. And it’s really good to make sure that you are doing the things that you can to boost up your immune system.
Dr. Z: Yep. And we’re going to cover a lot more about that.
Mama Z: Right.
Dr. Z: I’m going to cover a lot more about that, because today, the third most, I think, we think, the third most important thing in your life is your health. Again, your walk with God, your relationship with others, and your health, this is the foundation of our life on this planet.
And we’re going to give you some really good take-aways, some key take-aways, some high level. And then we can dive into nitty-gritty details on a couple of things that we usually do.
[8:25-16:22] Testimonials & Reviews
But I want to thank you, for those of you who take the time and leave a review. It’s really special to us. And we love beginning the shows with just a call-out and just a thank you, just to give you just a shout-out, because you spend the time, you leave a review, and we appreciate it. So, this review is from “Raising Alton.” That’s their name online. With a five stars. So, thank you for that.
Mama Z: Yes, thank you!
Dr. Z: Yay! “I love listening to the podcast. I have learned so much from you. I started implementing the essential oils in my daily living. Thank you so much! And God bless!” Oh, that’s cool! Like there’s a lot of little things we share on the podcast about essential oils. And one of my favorite things about the show is that it’s not an essential oil show. You know what I’ve actually thought about? Depending on our time, adding one more thing, I thought how cool would it be to have like a straight up essential oil podcast in preparation for the next book, because the next book is going to be about essential oils and chronic disease. Like we could dive deep.
Mama Z: Guess what? We could have like our tips each week just be a little bit longer and have them be some supersonic nuggets for that. Guess what? PS, our blend over here, you can use those same oils in a roll-on, and then put fractionated coconut oil or organic jojoba oil to make it a roller bottle, which you can do the same way.
Dr. Z: Yep.
Mama Z: And so, there are lots of good carry-over. You can use these same oils to make your own hand sanitizer, by adding some aloe vera gel and some of the grain alcohol, as well as distilled and purified water with those essential oils. So, there’s lots of good carry-over that you can use, not just with the diffuser blends that we choose, but also, they’re beneficial in other areas.
We use these same oils in our immune-boosting blend, which we’ll talk about a little bit later. I’m going to talk about just our busy season and when we travel, how that’s important, knowing that you’re not going to be in your own surroundings, and how to build up your immunity and your immune system while you’re traveling and while you’re doing a lot of things.
Dr. Z: I’ve actually got a good idea. I’ve got a better idea. One thing, hey, for those of you listening, please let us know. We’ve got another review I want to read. I have two short ones. But let us know if you’re interested in this. And again, you go to NaturalLivingFamilypodcast.com. Sign up for the newsletter. And then you can get an email from us. Reply to that email, and let us know what you think.
What would you think if we start a mid-week essential oil tip bonus episode, short and sweet, five to ten minutes at the most? That’s something I’ve noticed that a lot of podcasters are doing. They have weekly shows that are feature-lengths. And then in the middle of the week, they have little two-minute devotionals, a minute meditation, a five-minute health tip.
It doesn’t even have to be ten minutes. But there is so . . . I’m in information overload at this point, because whenever I write a book, I just immerse myself in data. I immerse myself. And Sabrina is writing a lot of the recipes. She’s covering her detox strategies. I have the responsibility of compiling all of the literature and making just this argument, essentially. And I’m arguing, and I’m very biased, by the way. I have an agenda. My agenda – and I’m very biased – is that drugs should be used as a last resort, not as a first approach to anything not life-threatening, to anything not an emergency.
And as you’ll hear and see Dr. Tony Jimenez talk about in our upcoming Hope for Breast Cancer documentary, Dr. Tony is clear. Most, like 99.9 percent of all cancers, are not emergencies, unless it’s a cancer that is blocking an airway or a colon obstruction or something like you need to get it removed. Most cancers, you could wait a minute or two to decide what you want to do. You don’t need to rush to get your port. You don’t need to rush to chemo. You don’t need to rush to radiation. You could start other things to at least, at the least, prepare your body for that stuff.
And that’s the number one danger people do. They rush. They’re on a bad diet, bad sleep habits. They have a weakened immune system. And they go right to chemo. Well, of course you’re going to get annihilated from that. You’ve got to boost up your immune system first. You’ve got to build up your body to then tear it down. That’s essentially what chemo does. It tears you down. It kills the cancer. It kills your healthy cells. It kills everything.
So, at the very least spend a few weeks, a month or two, to prep your body for chemo, right? Prepare your body for antibiotics. Prepare your body for whatever it is that you need, right? So, anyway, proper planning prevents poor performance.
Mama Z: Yes.
Dr. Z: Right? We’ve covered that many, many times. Anyway, another cool review. “I love Dr. Z and Mama Z.”
Anyway, let us know before I go. Let us know, seriously. Let us know if you like an essential oil tip a week. And maybe we could put something together for like a Thursday mid-week episode. And it would just be something fun. And Chris, it could be super easy for us to do. You know, right here after we film, just boom, do a few. And something is telling me we need to.
But anyway, I don’t want to be presumptuous. And quite frankly, if none of you say yes, I’m not going to do it. It’s like, “Why?” Because it’s time, it’s money, it’s cost. It’s like we’ve got to put this together. And this podcast is free. It’s our service to you. And I want to be very wise with the investment that we do. And I don’t want to waste. You know what I mean? So, if you want it, I’ll give it to you. I promise.
And this is something that, again, we’re going to be submerged in the literature and the research for the next four months, five months, as we write this book. My head is going to be exploding with stuff. I’m going to have like essential oil tips and bombs all over. Anyway, I love you.
Hey, you know who I also love? Ohyea22. I love Ohyea22. Her name is Chantel. “I love Dr. Z and Mama Z. They are hysterical and super fun to listen to. If you want to take your eating and health to the next level, these are your people. Love you guys! Love, Chantel.” And Chantel, we love you, too. Chantel Ray, “Waist Away” podcast, one of my very first podcasts that I’ve ever done, and now one of your close friends.
Mama Z: And she’s very special.
Dr. Z: I love it.
Mama Z: And she’s going to be visiting this weekend.
Dr. Z: Oh, really?
Mama Z: Yes. She’s going to be here with some of her friends. So, I get to see her, I think, on Monday. It’s either Sunday or Monday.
Dr. Z: Fine. We’ll have to take her out to dinner or something, maybe.
Mama Z: Yes, but she’ll have her other friends with her. So, it might end up being just girls.
Dr. Z: Great. That’s what happens. That’ right. I’ll have fun. I’ll play beach volleyball with the guys or something.
Mama Z: Yes, I’ll have a babysitter all set up.
Dr. Z: Or, I’ll hang out with the kiddos. Well, anyway, we love you, and we appreciate you. And you know what, Chantel? I so appreciate you and Dr. Ryan Wohlfert and all the other health influencers and podcasters that have left reviews. I really appreciate that, because to know that other podcasters and other doctors and folks are listening, other preachers that are listening to our show, really fans the flame so to speak.
And it’s really encouraging when you start to teach the teachers and minister to the ministers. That’s a blessing, and so, we don’t take that for granted. So, praise God for that! Sabrina, before we dive in, anything else you want to share?
Mama Z: No, I want to dive right in, because I have a bunch of notes, really, that I have been taking from the last time.
[16:23-22:20] Our Crazy August & The Wisdom God Gave Us
Dr. Z: How about this? Anything you want to wrap up about…? So again, go to episode 35. Listen to this whole thing that we’re trying to convey to you. The three most important things in life are those things that will be most attacked by the enemy. And this is what we’ve learned, what we’ve learned in our season of unbelievable experiences. I mean unbelievable experiences within one month just alone, in the month of August. I’ll never forget August. Like August was something else.
Mama Z: And August was like here and gone.
Dr. Z: August started, the first day of August started with a global streaming service sending . . . Well, okay, first day was school, right?
Mama Z: Yea.
Dr. Z: Okay, first day was school. And then like two days later, a global streaming service sent a documentary film crew to feature us as the main protagonist in the essential oil documentary that’s going to be airing next year. That, by the way, is a big deal.
Mama Z: The platform of Mrs. America, all the TV experiences, all the other stuff that we’re doing.
Dr. Z: Yes, August didn’t stop. We traveled to San Diego to go to our Mind Share Summit, networking health event that we go to. And then TV and some radio and podcasts. And then Mrs. America.
Mama Z: Right.
Dr. Z: Vegas.
Mama Z: And you know, while we flying going to California, here I am on the plane beating parts of my dress and stuff like that. I mean, you couldn’t rest one moment. You had to have everything planned out.
Dr. Z: So, in the midst of all of that, continuing to edit and work on the documentary that’s going to be coming out in a couple of months, continuing to manage the business, raising our babies, spending time with friends and family members, going on the heels of winning Mrs. Georgia, Sabrina going to a national pageant in Vegas. I took the kids. We went on a helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon. I had a lot of fun. I came back home and secured the third book deal.
Mama Z: We got top six in Mrs. America.
Dr. Z: As a finalist. Again, just think of it, though. I don’t take this for granted. Very few people every get on a documentary. Very few people ever win a pageant. Very few people ever become a finalist. Very few people ever write a book. Very few ever do the things that we all did just in August alone. And I feel like we literally have lived years, five years’ worth of life in the last eight to nine months. And it’s been…
Mama Z: But your August could be a different August. And you could still have just as many challenges and opportunities in a different way.
Dr. Z: Yea. That’s not what . . . I guess what I’m trying to convey is the feel. I guess what I’m trying to remind people or bring people back from that last episode is like why? Like how can you call this a year in review? It’s September. No, no, no.
It’s like I feel God saying, “Hey, Eric and Sabrina, You guys have gone through a lot, more than most.” Truthfully, I don’t know anyone; I don’t. I don’t know anyone else that has gone through as much as we have this last year, like in the last nine months; no one. And it’s not to brag. It’s not any of this. This is what God gave us. And here we are. We’re just going through life. And I look back, and I’m like, “Wow!”
And I’m looking back as if looking in the future, what would I say to a young man who is forty years old, going through what I’m going through when I’m in my eighties. I’m like, “You know, let me tell you about 2019, kid.” And then I tell him the story. What would I tell him?
I would tell him, “Look, regardless of the fame, regardless of the money, regardless of the struggles, regardless of the pain, regardless of the accidents, regardless of the issues, regardless of all the good and bad, there are three important things in life. And those things are things that will be attacked by the enemy. When you are in the groove, when you are in the flow, when you’re trying to serve God, regardless of where you’re at in life.”
But I’m just saying from experience, I feel, Sabrina, this is the truth, I feel we’ve been imparted wisdom. I feel this has been wisdom from years of experience. And I feel like dog-years, like the nine months of experience are…
Mama Z: Don’t call me a dog.
Dr. Z: No, I love you! The nine months of experience that we’ve been given are like five years in real life. And it’s like, “Wow!” I just feel like it’s been so much. Number one, the most important thing in your life is your walk with God. Number two is your relationship with others. And number three is your health. And these are the things that the enemy, Satan, Lucifer, and his minions are going to attack. These are the three things that will rob you of the abundant life.
Anything at all you want to talk about relationship with others, to wrap up last episode? Or do you want to start right on health?
Mama Z: No, I wanted to say that we have to be super intentional. And I know we’ve mentioned this before. And we have talked about the five P’s. But it’s important to be intentional. We have the babysitters lined up, or I have the babysitters lined up for every Sunday afternoon through the end of October, because it’s really important whether I’m here or not that Eric has time to go out to volleyball. And when I am here, it’s really important that I go as well.
And we have to be intentional with our fellowship. We have to make sure that we schedule time with the people that we want to spend time with. And it’s also important to do the same for our relationships, like our husband-wife relationships, setting up those date times and other times, just so that we have that refreshing. Because it’s really important to do that, as well as a daily basis with your walk with God, and continually praying without ceasing as you’re going about your day, but also really living really in that relationship with each one of your family members and those other things.
And if there are some things that your schedule has not allowed you to do that you’ve wanted to do, then it’s time to schedule the things in with your routine in order to include those things, to make sure that those things happen.
[22:21-40:07] 7 Buckets That are Vital for Good Health (The Most Important Things)
Dr. Z: Alright, your health. I have seven buckets we can cover.
Mama Z: I’ve got a little bit to pour in to each one of those buckets.
Dr. Z: I know. That’s why I want to corral us, because there’s a reason. There’s a strategy here, right? We could cover so many different things. But this is the culmination of your health, what I’m going to give you. There are seven things. I mean there are really seven things that are vital, I mean really vital for your health.
And this completely supersedes protocols and diets and strategies and supplements and all that stuff. Like I want to really make this simple, because it’s about the fundamentals. It’s about getting back to basics. I mean trust me. These seven are key.
And so, when you’re focusing and hopefully, like the last episode, you’re like us and you repent. You realize, “God, I’m not spending time with You. I’m not praying. I’m not fasting. I’m not reading the Bible. I’m not in the Word. I’m not with people. I’m not in fellowship. I’m not at church. And my relationships with people aren’t where they should be.” You know, all this stuff. Hopefully you come to a point where you like repent to the Lord if you need to.
If not, praise God! If you’re rocking out these things, if you’re crushing them, praise the Lord! Be humble. Let me praise you. Don’t praise yourself. Praise God, you’re doing a great job. Keep it up.
But if you’re like 99.9 percent of the rest of us who are kind of struggling through this thing called life, and if you find yourself getting your time with the Lord getting squeezed. Maybe your relationships are estranged. Or maybe you’re finding a little isolation or whatever it might be. There’s an element of repentance. There’s an element like, “Lord, I can do better in this area.” And dare I say, we all can do better, right?
But when it comes to your health, here are the seven. First, I mean just simple. Don’t tune me out. You’re going to get some really good stuff here. I can already hear them: “I already know this stuff.”
But number one is good, healthy food. I mean simple stuff. Because you’ll find yourself when you’re in the throes of the battle, you’re tempted to, “Oh, just a little bit of fast food. Oh, just a little bit of this, just a little bit of that, just a little bit.” And we’ve already covered this.
“All things in moderation.” A lie from the pit of Hell. That’s going to get you caught. It’s not all things. It’s all good things in moderation. So, first of all is making sure you don’t compromise on your food.
Mama Z: Right.
Dr. Z: Don’t compromise on the air that you breathe and the water that you drink. I’m not kidding. Your home is your safe haven. You need to make sure that you’re eating good food, drinking good water, and breathing good air in your home, specifically. And your sleeping. I mean you need sleep.
And exercise, regular motion. I will testify that’s the first thing that gets squeezed out of my schedule, because time is of the essence. And if I only have like eighteen working hours of the day or waking hours of the day, if I’m with the kids and working twelve of them, I don’t have a lot of time to run to the gym. And I will confess to y’all, that’s been an area that I’ve been weak in. And so, that’s one reason why I scheduled in personal training or exercising. It’s in my calendar now.
What’s number six? Natural therapies. You need a go-to solution for something when something happens. It’s not about if, it’s when–a burn, an ache, a stub, a toe, whatever, a cut. Just stuff happens, a nausea, an achy, a headache, whatever. You need to have something to go to. Like having that as part of your arsenal. That’s being proactive, so when something happens, you’re not scrambling and going to the pharmacy to get God knows what.
And the last one is fun. I’ve decided that. Why? Because seven is God’s perfect number and I want to have seven? No.
Mama Z: Good healthy fun.
Dr. Z: Because a happy heart does good like medicine. I know some of the healthiest, sexiest, richest people looking in the world, and they’re miserable inside. They don’t know how to have fun. And they don’t enjoy life. A happy heart does good like medicine. So, top to bottom: food, air, water, sleep, exercise, natural therapies, and fun. Which one do you want to cover first?
[26:42-40:08] Natural Remedies & The Benefits of Magnesium
Mama Z: Well, natural remedies.
Dr. Z: Natura remedies. Why are they important?
Mama Z: Because if you know that a time is going to be building up, and the first time I ever noticed this was we went to Disney, and we got back and all of us had like minor little cold or whatever that we got there. Okay?
Dr. Z: It wasn’t Disney’s fault. Disney, don’t sue us.
Mama Z: No. I’m not saying that. What it is, is…
Dr. Z: Disney is so protective of their reputation. We love Disney. We’re season ticket holders.
Mama Z: Right, yes.
Dr. Z: We love you Disney.
Mama Z: Yes. So, the biggest thing is that you’re going into a new environment,
Dr. Z: Yes.
Mama Z: With a different component from your home. And anytime that you’re doing that, or school starts, or you’re traveling, or you’re going to be in a hotel room for a couple of nights.
Dr. Z: We didn’t have our air purifier with us.
Mama Z: Exactly. You only have control over certain environmental factors when you’re gone. Yes, you can order in your water. I am big proponent of getting distilled water for when I travel. And I buy it by the gallon.
But when it comes to natural remedies, the immune-boosting blend that we use with our lypospheric vitamin C, on the website. And if you just type up “immune” on our website, that’s been my easiest way to find it. You’ll see this little syrup-looking thing, and Dr. Z’s natural flu shot. But it is crucial for prior to traveling, prior to being around a lot of people, all of that stuff, because you need to do what you can to build up your immune system.
And it’s not something that we do every day. I’m not doing it now while I’m back home. But I’ll tell you, I went through a complete box of that lypospheric vitamin C while I was gone for those ten days.
Dr. Z: Let’s give them the recipe: One serving of liposomal vitamin C; one teaspoon of raw honey (we prefer manuka honey); one teaspoon unrefined coconut oil; one to two drops of our immune-boosting blend, which is a mixture of cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus, rosemary, lemon, and orange; one-quarter teaspoon of organic pumpkin-pie spice, or cinnamon powder if you’re from anywhere else but America, because no one else knows what pumpkin-pie spice is; and a tiny pinch of pink Himalayan salt.
Like that is what God gave me as a recipe to essentially cure, because nothing else worked. Antibiotics didn’t work. Everything else, nothing worked, to cure pneumonia when we were suffering through black mold poisoning in our old home. We like LivOn Labs. You can go on Amazon. It’s like a buck a serving, like a dollar a serving. You pay like thirty-some dollars; free shipping with Prime. And we like LivOn Labs liposomal vitamin C.
And essentially, what liposomal technology is, it’s lipid-encapsulated vitamins and minerals, to help permit immediate absorption. We need fat. I mean one thing people don’t realize is that this low-fat craze has really starved our body of vital nutrients. But fat is what the intestines and the body need to absorb nutrients. And if you don’t have vitamin C encapsulated in fat, you’re going to ultimately urinate a lot of it out, if you’re taking it in supplement form. So, it’s a way of just getting it in. It’s like a thousand or sixteen-hundred percent of your recommended daily dose. So, it’s a ton.
Mama Z: Yea, I think you’re right. I think it says like a thousand milligrams or something like that.
Dr. Z: But that’s our immune-booster. But having that at your disposal.
Mama Z: Right.
Dr. Z: So, how about something else? How about some cool stuff that maybe we haven’t talked about, like some of the stuff that you do on a regular basis. I don’t know, your magnesium stuff. You’ve got some cool stuff up your sleeve.
Mama Z: Right. And I use a couple of different types of magnesium, from the Calm that I drink, to the Epsom salts that we bathe in. And then also, the magnesium chloride, which is the magnesium flakes, which you can use for sore muscles and stuff like that; as well as magnesium gel with seaweed extract for the scalp. But I love to utilize magnesium in a lot of different forms.
Dr. Z: What’s your favorite ways for what?
Mama Z: So, twice a day I do the Calm. And we have a couple of different forms of Calm, by Natural Vitality, that we do. There’s Calm for restful muscles. And so, that’s really more before bed type thing, especially, because we are such active people; so, at night.
And basically, the difference between the magnesium that’s in there and the one that’s in the restful muscles is there’s beet, there’s another amino acid. So, it really does help the muscles just to be able to purge the lactic acid at night.
If not, then it’s going to rest in your joints. Have you ever got up in the morning and felt like things were a little bit tighter? And then by the end of the day, you got things, just like the tin man. Everything is oiled up and working good. And then you go to sleep, and you’re going to repeat that same process the next day.
So, this is really to help that lactic acid out of those joints, and especially areas of your body that you are either prone to injury or you’ve had injury in the past. You know, that might be an area that’s more sensitive, and an area that that lactic acid just goes right to that area.
Also, the regular Calm is one, and magnesium, because it’s a binder, you don’t take it with food or other supplements. You do that at a different time during the day, because it is a binder. So, we want it to bind to that lactic acid. So, after a workout or mid-morning, mid-afternoon, before you go to bed, any of those times are good times to utilize that.
Now, if you’ve ever had a good massage, the next day have you noticed that you’re sore? And that’s, again, working some of that stuff out. You need to get it out of your body. So, doing an Epsom Salts bath, a detox bath, is critical. The recipe is on our website. Just type up detox both on the search engine there, and it will give you a great recipe for that.
Also, we have a magnesium spray. That’s on the website as well. And that is made with magnesium flakes, which is magnesium chloride. And that’s a different component of that. But it really helps with sore muscles and other things of that nature.
And then, I’ve talked about how I’ve used the magnesium gel with seaweed extract with essential oils to help with the scalp and hair. And especially if you’ve been pregnant or you are older and in or through part of the perimenopause/menopausal time and your hair has thinned, then that is a good way to help boost some of your hair follicles and stimulate them as well.
Dr. Z: Yea, magnesium is important. A lot of folks don’t realize that consuming sugar and caffeine, and drinking alcohol, and stress, stress, stress, and sleeplessness, bad sleeping habits, all essentially monopolize and use up a lot of our magnesium. And most people don’t realize they’re deficient.
Mama Z: And especially women.
Dr. Z: Yea, and this is key. Magnesium is needed for over three-hundred biochemical reactions in your body, like a lot of stuff.
Mama Z: Yea.
Dr. Z: Magnesium helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function. It keeps your heart rhythm steady. It supports a healthy immune system and keeps your bones strong.
Mama Z: Yes.
Dr. Z: Your blood sugar levels, your blood pressure, everything, your metabolism, how your body synthesizes protein; all of that is linked to magnesium. And so, going to the spray, I’ll give the recipe quick.
Mama Z: Yes.
Dr. Z: That will save you going to Natural Living Family. Well, let’s make this a real practical episode. The last few weeks, we’ve just really covered some really wonderful spiritual truths. And let’s give everyone a little bit of a dose of natural living in the home. This is straight from NaturalLivingFamily.com.
To make Sabrina’s magnesium oils spray, you get one-part distilled water, one-part magnesium flakes, and an essential oil of your choice. So, you boil the water. You pour the water over the magnesium flakes in a glass container. You stir until the flakes are dissolved. And you add essential oils and stir. It does not need to be refrigerated. It could last up to six months.
And because essential oils, this spray is transdermal. You spray it on your skin. It will penetrate through your skin into your bloodstream. It’s a nice way of getting magnesium throughout your body. So, what oils would you use and why for this? Because we actually don’t give any recommendations on this.
Mama Z: Yea, it all depends on what you’re wanting to use it for. If it is going to be for sore muscles, then I would include lavender, chamomile, wintergreen, peppermint, any of those pain-relieving oils. And I know you’ve got some great articles on there that incorporate some additional ones. And so, I find that that is super helpful.
Now when I was teaching in the pool, I noticed that before they switched over to salt water, they had chlorine in the pool. And I could literally, when I would put this on my skin, it was like I could feel this pooh, pooh, pooh, on my body, this chemical reaction, like getting rid of that chlorine on there. And it was just a crazy thing. But it’s really, really powerful.
So, when it came to that, I used more of the cleansing oils and the detox oils for that. Because having had a reaction to chlorine, as soon as I would get out of the pool, I would power wash off. And I had to every single time in warm water, and then I used that following.
So, one of the other things as well, when you are busy and you’re traveling a lot of different places, or you’re going into lots of different environments, I know in talking to a lot of people, even at Mrs. America, a lot of people have issues with their bowels. A lot of people who travel say, “I’m now bound up for three, four, or five days.” And they get very uncomfortable and then feel like they need to go right to a laxative or something else that’s not as natural, over-the-counter type thing.
And if you are prepping in a way, the distilled water is key in making sure that your body has enough water. Because a lot of times we don’t realize that we’re naturally trying to dehydrate ourselves. I mean my dad openly says, “Oh, I’m dehydrating myself. I’m only going to take one stop when I drive from Michigan to Georgia.” And so, some people purposely do that. But that is going to affect our body.
So, being smart about how we hydrate our bodies is also really important. And one of the tools that we really like to incorporate with that is our essential water concentrate, which you can find on the website as well. And we like the Ultima Electrolytes. And you don’t have to incorporate any of these things. But these are just some of the tips that we found are really helpful, because just over the years, having good staples allows you to set yourself up for good travel.
So, in our food suitcase, I call it, I have a lot of these things. And I have just a routine that we do when we’re out there visiting people, on the road, or anything like that. So, I think it’s important to make sure that we have good bowel health and that we recognize that when we’re traveling, we have good fiber.
Dr. Z: Smooth-Move Tea?
Mama Z: Smooth-Move Tea, you have lots of good greens, the spinach, the kale, and the scrubbers that get into your digestive system to help keep everything normal.
Dr. Z: As you’re traveling, you’re obviously sitting down, most people are, when they’re in the plane, in the car, the trains, the buses.
Mama Z: Right.
Dr. Z: You’re sitting down. That hinders your bowel motility. The foods that you eat, it’s just normal. A little bit of constipation is just normal during traveling. But you might need then a little bit extra.
And most hotel rooms wherever you’re staying are going to have the little coffee makers and you can get hot water. Get your distilled water. There are so many little hacks.
[40:08-50:06] Purify Your Water & Air
Dr. Z: But the key is, though, you mentioned water, because we want to go to the next point, water and air.
Mama Z: Right.
Dr. Z: And actually, having natural therapies at your disposal to help your body really when you need it, when you get the nausea. Quite frankly, if you haven’t, please, please, pick up my first book, The Healing Power of Essential Oils, because it covers, most, ninety percent of what you need when it comes to pain, everything from fibromyalgia to libido to menopause issues to PMS to nausea, like everything. I mean a natural remedy, a solution for most issues that people deal with, having those at your disposal in your medicine cabinet, so to speak; in your, what is it, our little emergency kit?
Mama Z: Right.
Dr. Z: Or medi-kit, or first-aid kit. Like just having them in roller bottles and having bottles labeled and ready. But when you transition off of that, I’m telling you, you’ll find yourself not needing that stuff as much if you’re eating the right food, drinking the right water, and breathing the right air. And this is not going to be a sales pitch for hydrogen water or Kangen water, some multi-level marketing, whatever. You need to get water that is pure, that has as little as possible in it.
Mama Z: Yes, especially when you are traveling.
Dr. Z: Yes. And that’s why, until I’m blue in the face, I am not concerned about reconstituting my water with electrolytes or with anything. I just want the junk out. I don’t want fluoride in my water. I don’t want chlorine in my water. I don’t want the hundreds of chemicals that go through.
I don’t want prescription drugs in my water. And that’s what’s happening, because when you urinate and your grandma is urinating and your dad is urinating and they’re on fifteen different drugs, they’re urinating out the chemicals and the drugs, because the body can’t metabolize this stuff. And it goes into your water supply. And chemical municipalities aren’t testing for this. They don’t have purification for this, which is why personally…
Mama Z: And when you’re in an airplane and you see all these like huge pools of water, just like open air spots that have all this water that go through the water treatment center, I mean you just look at it and you’re like it even looks like a cesspool. You know what I mean, when you look at all of that?
Dr. Z: Yea, I’m telling you, for me, I’m convinced that reverse osmosis is the biggest bang for our buck, because it strips everything out. And I just want pure water. I just want the pure water. And I want something that’s not going to kill me.
So, we recommend, and by the way, here’s a really quick tip. Go to NaturalLivingFamily.com, and type up the word “review,” just in the search. Search for the word “review.” And what you’ll get is our product review of Aquatru. It’s a counter top. Anyone can afford it. It’s just a couple of hundred bucks.
I mean really, anyone can afford it, even people on fixed income. Save ten bucks a month, and at the end of the year you’ll get it kind of thing, right? Just don’t worry. We all can afford things, maybe not today. But we can afford things sooner than later. So, type up the word, “review.” And you’ll get a very affordable countertop reverse osmosis machine that we use. I love it. It’s in my bathroom. It’s perfect.
And then also, Air Doctor. I can’t stress enough, especially being victims—and I use the word carefully—being victims of toxic mold, or black mold toxicity, Air Doctor has been life-saving for us. Again, just a couple hundred bucks. And anyone can afford, maybe not today, but you can afford it tomorrow kind of thing.
So, type up the word, “review.” We also review MyGreenFills, and why we love non-toxic laundry stuff. We also have a review on Thrive Market and Health Mate Sauna. I mean you do what you can afford. But the bottom line is that…
Mama Z: It’s an over time thing.
Dr. Z: Yes.
Mama Z: And, you know, you have to work with the budget that you have. And we can give you strategies that we’ve done over the years. But these things are things that help us live as controlled of a lifestyle that we can over the things that we have control over.
Dr. Z: And trust me on this. It is impossible, and this supersedes faith. I can just hear people say, “Lord.” Don’t even waste your time.
When it comes to the air that you breathe, I promise you, it is impossible to have good mental and emotional function, to sleep well and soundly, and have a good immune system if your house has mold in it, if your house is off-gassing toxic chemicals, and if your house is filled with aerosols and plug-ins and things. I’m telling you, it’s physically, neurologically, it’s physiologically impossible for your body to overcome that, to experience true health and wellness.
That’s why throwing out the aerosols, replacing them with essential oil diffusers, if, and I recommend to have a nice smell, but also to enhance the mood in your home. But ridding your stuff of these synthetic fragrances and cleaning the air, it’s so fundamental. You wonder why your kids can’t sleep. You wonder why your kids are getting bad grades and they just got diagnosed with a learning disability. I’m telling you, a lot of it, a lot of that is caused because of the toxins in the air. All I’m trying to share…
Mama Z: And the cleaners.
Dr. Z: From everything.
Mama Z: To the fragrances.
Dr. Z: You have control over the water and the air and the food in your home.
Mama Z: Yes.
Dr. Z: And that’s why your home has to be a safe haven.
Mama Z: And when you’re not at home, and this is something I talked about with my makeup artist when I was in Las Vegas was… they spend so many weeks on the road…and because they’re used to their filtration system and their other things that they have in the house, then when they go on the road, it almost…He said it’s like, “I have constant allergies when I’m on the road.”
Dr. Z: Yep.
Mama Z: And so, one of the things that we’ve done, because our friend who also had black mold in their house, she goes into different places and she says she can be a mold dog. And when she came into our house, she says, “Your house doesn’t have mold.”
Dr. Z: She was like, “Yep, I could tell.”
Mama Z: And it was so cute.
Dr. Z: She was in the home for like four hours that day.
Mama Z: Right. And she had no problems.
Dr. Z: I would be miserable. I would be like, “Not now.”
Mama Z: We have gone into hotels, and we have gone into different environments at different people’s houses and have had the same experience. So, bringing a good diffuser with you, and you mentioned the little coffee pot. But having a traveling little hot water pot is so key, because you don’t know what the last person had in the coffee.
Dr. Z: You have collapsible, non-toxic silicone I got you.
Mama Z: I have a collapsible, non-toxic. Yes. It was awesome.
Dr. Z: That was a gift. Wasn’t that sweet of me?
Mama Z: So sweet! Just ask you.
Dr. Z: We have to take a break, by the way.
Mama Z: We will in a second.
Dr. Z: Alright. Is this going to be a two-hour episode?
Mama Z: No, it’s not going to be a two-hour episode.
Dr. Z: I’m telling you, the podcast…
Mama Z: Listen, I let you go on and on and on last time. Just give me a moment. Okay.
Dr. Z: I was just trying to spread the love.
Mama Z: So, when we’ve gone into hotel rooms where it is horrible, one of the things that we’ve done is taken a washcloth. We’ve had the fan running and taken a washcloth, put essential oils on it, and propped it up over the top of the fan and the blower, just to really help purify the air that’s coming in.
Dr. Z: If it’s bad, we’ve asked for another room.
Mama Z: Oh yea, of course.
Dr. Z: Right, really, you can.
Mama Z: Yes, yes.
Dr. Z: You can ask for another room and you’re not offending anybody.
Mama Z: Yep. And my mom and Sally even at midnight or twelve-thirty, when they got to the hotel, that’s what they ended up having to do.
Dr. Z: What about deionizers? What are those things called?
Mama Z: Yea.
Dr. Z: We’ve done that before too. Every hotel has . . . because when people, and people do in these non-smoking facilities, they always end up smoking. They have these de-ozone…
Mama Z: Yea. The ozone machines.
Dr. Z: Yea, they have these ozone machines, which are essentially…
Mama Z: You can’t be in the room, technically, while they’re going.
Dr. Z: No, because it strips out the oxygen but that will also take a lot of the particles out and just help kind of clean it better.
Mama Z: So, one of the things that we talked about was, “Yea, that would be like the million-dollar thing.” He says, “I’ve wanted to have these like collapsible filters that are lined with essential oils, that all you have to do is stick it over the air vent in the hotel just to cleanse the air, and allow the air flow to come through.” Because obviously you don’t get as much air flow with a wash cloth. But it does make a huge difference within five to ten minutes when you’re smelling peppermint versus like moldy smell or a dirty socks smell. There are all kinds of different smells.
Dr. Z: Most people don’t travel like that. And most people live at home, and they’re at their office. But you could do the same thing at your office.
Mama Z: At your office.
Dr. Z: See, that’s the key.
Mama Z: Just spending a night at a friend’s house.
Dr. Z: Yes. Make sure your home is a safe haven.
Mama Z: Right.
Dr. Z: That’s the message, because we’ve already covered travel.
Mama Z: Right.
Dr. Z: We have a whole travel oen. But this is your home.
Mama Z: Right.
Dr. Z: Your home has to be a safe haven, or wherever you spend most of your time.
Mama Z: Right.
Dr. Z: You have to, food, air, water. Before we turn to the rest, sleep, exercise, fun, and food, a word from our sponsor.
Sponsor Spotlight: Hope for Breast Cancer [50:07-51:12]
Mama Z: More than half of you listening to this will be affected by cancer at some point in your lives, either personally or through a loved one.
Dr. Z: The first thing that goes through your mind is dread, fear, and a never-ending question, can this be cured?
Mama Z: My dear friend, Angie, went through this exact experience, a wonderful mom and wife. She was the picture of health. And a breast cancer diagnosis in 2017 shocked her to the core. It changed everything for her.
Dr. Z: The “Hope for Breast Cancer” documentary follows her story as she navigates the maze of cancer therapies to uncover some shocking truths about herself, her faith, and about her health.
Mama Z: Visit HopeforBreastCancer.com (that’s h-o-p-e-f-o-r breast cancer dot com) to reserve your seat for the upcoming global premier and to be the first to watch the free viewing when it airs.
Dr. Z: We promise tears, laughter, and most of all, hope.
[51:13-59:26] The Importance of Exercise & Sleep
Dr. Z: Well Mama Z, what do you want next?
Mama Z: We need to talk about exercise, because that then leads into sleep. Exercise is really important. But exercise and sleep go hand in hand. And if you haven’t good sleep, then you need to make sure that you sleep more and exercise. And by your exercising, it’s going to cause your body to need to recover, which will make you sleep more effectively.
But you need both. And especially when you’re asking a lot of your body, it’s really important to make sure that you get both of those components, because we need to work out our systems. And not only does it help things move through our body; just like we said, when you’re sitting or traveling or whatever, whether you’re in the car or have a long commute or anything, that’s going to slow up the works.
We know that when you’re running, that that’s going to get things going. When you’re exercising, that’s going to help move things through your body. And then it’s going to require your body to need extra rest time as well. And both of them are important. So, it’s important to make sure that you make a priority for that.
For instance, this morning when I got up, I felt like just getting back into our normal flow of our exercise and stuff after traveling a number of weeks. But I was a little bit too tired for exercising this morning. And I knew my body still needed another day of rest. And so, having a day of rest in-between the other two days that I worked out solidly and tomorrow and the next day and Saturday.
I think it’s really important to get your body on a schedule. And when there are times that you need to recoup, recoup and get right back into what you’re doing, because that’s going to help your cycle of sleep and the cycle of your life and what you do, and that you’re doing all of that very intentionally. Also, if you are working out your body more, or you’re getting back into those types of things, or you’re really challenging yourself to do that, then make sure you do take times to do those detox baths and de-stress your body as well, so then you can sleep more effectively and efficiently as well.
Dr. Z: You know, if you haven’t, tune in to episode 14 of our podcasts. Go to the archives. And you can either go NaturalLivingFamilypodcast.com, or you can go to where you are listening to this right now. And there’s an episode where we cover living right for your body type. We cover food sensitivities. We cover fitness. And we cover more. So, you’re going to get a lot more details.
And essentially, you mentioned a great segway to sleep. The bottom line, y’all, you’ve just got to sleep. I mean there’s no substitute for sleep. I mean you can’t repair; your body can’t restore; your hormones will never be balanced. You’ll never be able to really recover emotionally, mentally, spiritually, if you’re sleep-deprived. And for a season, I get it.
Mama Z: Right.
Dr. Z: And you know what’s funny? The doctor who says you must get eight hours of sleep every day never had kids. I mean, that’s not possible.
Mama Z: Yea, I woke up to go to the bathroom at 5 o’clock this morning and to get ready. And I’m like, “I really do need more sleep.” And I find Elijah.
Dr. Z: Again, he was up at 4 o’clock a couple of nights ago, that kid.
Mama Z: Yea. And he had gotten ready. And he was on the couch, and he was watching some movie.
Dr. Z: He’s got his clothes on. He’s like, “I’m awake. I’m ready.”
Mama Z: And then I came downstairs this time. And he had already put himself back to bed. And it’s just so funny. And you know, when you watch kids, young kids, how their bodies adapt to different things, too. Like Bella, she ran her first half mile last week, and then her first mile. And right after that, she pooped her pants. And it just shows you, when you get your body moving, it gets everything going. And she then wanted to run to the bathroom after that. And so, when you watch kids, they know their bodies better than adults even can read their own bodies. And exercise…
Dr. Z: Bella, nice function.
Mama Z: Yea.
Dr. Z: So, giving yourself some wonderful sleep is key. And that’s where using our sleepy time blend, we love lavender, vetiver, and Roman chamomile. And you can do anything with that. You can make a roller bottle out of it, put it in a diffuser, a body oil, whatever. Give yourself or give your spouse a foot rub or your roommate or your mom or dad a neck rub. I mean there are so many things you can do with it. But giving yourself a routine.
And Sabrina has mentioned already this episode; but in the past, a lot of our detox bath, I can’t tell you the reviews we get; like the people, the testimonials, everything, just everything. Get your body . . . you know what it is? It’s a mindfulness technique. It’s actually stopping things. It’s putting yourself in a position where you’re intentionally giving yourself fifteen, twenty, maybe thirty minutes of me time. That’s huge. That is probably the biggest thing of it. And soaking, relaxing, having Epsom salts and the oils, just really helps you just detox emotionally, spiritually, mentally, physically. But that can also help you get into a nice bedtime routine.
Here’s something key, and it will segway into food. Please, if you haven’t, pick up The Essential Oils Diet book, our new book that came out a couple of months ago, The Essential Oils Diet, because we cover all of this stuff. And one part that we cover in our healthy sleep habits and a routine, technology is literally killing us, that we don’t even realize. And technology is robbing us of good sleep.
And there’s a huge difference between the light that’s being shined through that screen at midnight versus the light that we see through candles and what our ancestors enjoyed many, many moons ago. Blue light is just annihilating our pineal gland, our melatonin cycles. People don’t realize that little screen is like a sun. It’s like a shining sun that’s shining bright blue light that’s keeping your brain awake. That’s what the sun is designed to do, to keep us awake, shine bright blue light in our eyes, so we’re like, “Okay, great! I’m awake now.”
But when the sun goes down, it’s a different light. And there’s more orange and more yellow light. And that’s what the moon produces. And then the body is like, “Okay, I can start to produce melatonin.” And my hormones start to change, insulin starts to regulate, and you calm down. And a lot of reasons why kids and adults can’t wind down is because they’re essentially jacked up. It’s like you’re on a high because of the blue light, because of the screens.
So, no screen time. And if you do, if you’re like, if you work on your phone, and if you have a digital online business, I get it. I have filters on my phone. There are night watches. And Apple has an iPhone. It’s right there in your Apple. Just change it. And right about sunset, the screen…
Mama Z: How do you change it, for people who don’t know?
Dr. Z: Yea, it’s right there. You’re going to put me on the spot. I’ve got to go where the settings are. You’ve got to go to settings. Everyone has a different. But on settings, it’s right there. I believe it’s under display and brightness. So, on Apple, go to your iPhone. Go to settings. Go to display and brightness, and type and click on Night Shift. It’s called Night Shift. And so, from sunset to sunrise, my screen turns gradually more orange. And right in the middle of the night, it’s orange. It’s not even blue; it’s orange.
Mama Z: Well, I always have my phone on airplane mode. So, I don’t notice. But mine is also set from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Night Shift.
Dr. Z: What it does is it gets gradual. So, right around sunset, it’s set to sun. The sun goes down and the moon comes up. And that’s key. And also, your Wi-Fi and your Bluetooth, just get yourself in like a digital detox kind of mode every night. And that will help you sleep. I mean that right there might be the difference that you need just to wake up and feel good and feel refreshed.
[59:27-1:05:43] Why Are We Talking About This? These are important things!
But again, this is the stuff, like why are we talking about this? The three most important things in life are those things that will be the most attacked by the enemy. It’s your walk with God, your relationship with others, and your health.
And as you’re going through life, and as busyness and work and family and stress, these are the little things that sometimes people forgo. And the next thing you know, here’s a problem. You start doping yourself up on sleep meds. And then you have to dope yourself up the morning of on all these caffeine energy drinks just to get you going. And you don’t even know what it’s like to be. And you know what I did? And I don’t know if you know this, Sabrina, but I took a couple hour nap this Saturday after I put Bella down for her nap.
Mama Z: Oh yea, I noticed.
Dr. Z: Because I didn’t have caffeine. Like I’ve been drinking . . . I get it. I’m with this with y’all. I’ve been drinking a lot more caffeine than I normally drink. That means an extra matcha latte. Actually, I had a couple of cups of coffee last week; just not much; like two in general.
We’re traveling a lot, like different time zones, going from East Coast to West Coast with kids. What do you think happens to a kid who wakes up at 5 o’clock in Eastern time? What time do you think he wakes up in Pacific time, Sabrina? You don’t know, because you were at the pageant, and I was with the kids. So, anyway, I’m dealing with kids,
Mama Z: I guess,
Dr. Z: being awake at all times of the night. And I’m like, okay. I dipped into a little bit of coffee. I’m like, “You know, I need a break from this.” I took like a whole day off. I’m like no caffeine at all. And you know what? I got a little tired. So, you know what I did? I took a nap. But you know what? Praise God, it was the Sabbath. It was Saturday. I could do that.
So, here’s a tip for y’all. If you find yourself relying on caffeine right now, force yourself to go caffeine free for at least one day. Typically, it’s going to be a non-working day so you can take a nap and rest. If you can, go two days. I found going two days without caffeine helps reset, so that Monday I don’t need it, I don’t want it. But if it happens to be a green tea, it’s a nice gradual boost. But it’s just a little tip, a little thing that you don’t realize. Like wow, I’m dependent on this caffeine, because one cup turns into two. And the next thing you know, you’re drinking a pot of coffee and having a Red Bull just to stay awake. And that’s not good, because it messes…
Mama Z: When have you ever had Red Bull?
Dr. Z: I never liked it, by the way. I don’t know. I just drink coffee and smoke cigarettes.
Mama Z: What?
Dr. Z: Yea, I know. But anyway. So, why are we sharing this? It’s because when life gets tough, when things happen, when you get in survival mode, all the things that we’ve been talking about the last few episodes and couple of months, these are the little things that get stripped from you. And you know what? You don’t focus on your food anymore. You start to make concessions.
So, please, please, please, get The Essential Oils Diet book. Dive in, and don’t worry about a protocol or a diet, all that kind of stuff. Our plan, our program, is really simple. It’s about eating good food. And we want to make that simple for you. So, anyway, what thoughts do you have, babe?
Mama Z: Well, I think all of this leads us to one factor that we’ve tried to incorporate in each one of our talks. And that is that we want to have balance in all of these areas. If you focus on all of these areas, then you’re going to have a presence of strength in each one of these areas, because you’re focusing on it. And to focus on balance in all of these areas is the struggle and the strength.
And I think it’s important, because we know without struggle, there’s no progress. So, it’s really important to just look at each one of these factors that you mentioned, and to mention them again. That’s food, air, water, sleep, exercise, natural remedies, and fun. And making sure you have a presence of all of that, and that you’re making an effort in each one of those areas, and that you are being intentional.
Because if you’re being intentional, then you’re moving forward. Because if we’re static, then life is passing us by. So, if we are pushing forward in each one of those areas and trying to do better than we did yesterday, then we’re going to become better. And our life is going to become more balanced. And that’s the goal.
Dr. Z: And you’ll be happy with yourself when you don’t feel fat and you don’t feel like you look ugly.
Mama Z: Yes.
Dr. Z: Which is all a lie anyway, because we’re beautiful in God’s eyes. And when you’re happy about how you look, you’re happy about how you feel, you’re happy about the clothes that you’re wearing and things, that’s a huge component to a lot of this, you know. And that’s a little bit where the enemy attacks a lot of people. And we want to help you with that. So, we hope that you got something out of this. And we’re going to end with a natural living family tip about fun.
Mama Z: Yes.
Dr. Z: Because that’s one thing that we don’t talk a lot about.
Mama Z: “A merry heart does good like a medicine.”
Dr. Z: It’s something that we need to remember. But stay tuned, because we’re going to end in just a minute. But I really enjoyed these last couple of episodes.
Mama Z: Absolutely.
Dr. Z: It’s been cool. It’s kind of like a reality check. And one thing that I realized is like the Bible says if you meditate on God’s law, and then you speak to it, you’re talking to your kids about the Word, you’re talking to your friends, you’re walking along the path, and you’re quoting Scripture to each other, like having us meditate on these eternal truths, even about what we talked about today, helps us just regain focus and get grounded.
And so, we encourage you to please, have a local natural living family community. Have a home group, a Bible study group, a church group, a community group, something to get together with people so you can encourage and talk about this kind of stuff.
Mama Z: And laugh. I can’t even tell you how many times we are laughing with our fit family. I mean recognize it next time. Just take like a mental snapshot. But we laugh a lot. And it really does do good like a medicine.
Dr. Z: It’s fun. You’re not alone, y’all. You’re not alone. And keeping these things, this topic with these things on the top of your mind and the tip of your tongue, it’s helpful, it’s helpful. And we love ya.
[1:05:43-1:07:07] Natural Living Tips: Having Fun
Mama Z: Yep, we do. And to wrap up today’s show, we have a special natural living tip for you.
Dr. Z: So, here’s the thing about fun, you’ve got to have it. You’ve got to enjoy it. And be a kid again. And I don’t know what it is. We don’t know what it is. But as long as it’s good and wholesome, enjoy it. Laugh, play. Put time in where you’re hanging out with your kids, your grandkids. And you know what? Try to spend some time with kids, because kids know how to have fun. That’s what they do for a living. They’re professionals at it. And you find yourself, you know what, giggling and teasing and tickling and doing silly stuff.
And that is a wonderful way of producing endorphins, healthy, happy hormones like serotonin and dopamine. And it makes you feel young again and vibrant again. So, spend some time with some kids. And if you don’t have any kids or grandkids or nephews and nieces, you know what? There are lot of kids out there, boys’ and girls’ clubs. I used to minister there. And there are other organizations. And these kids need a big brother, a big sister. They need a mentor. And you can spend time with them and have fun with them.
And don’t forget the nursery at church. It’s a wonderful place to minister to young people and be with them. And they always, always need help at church in the nursery.
