My Honey Sugar Scrub with essential oils is a fun and simple treat. It makes a luxurious gift, and it’s easy on the wallet, since you can likely find the ingredients in your pantry.
This little beauty project is a great hands-on project for the kids. I’ve even done scrubs with my Mom’s groups, who loved learning how to create a spa day experience at home.
My recipe has a blend of moisturizing ingredients that buff away dull skin. It also includes endless essential oil combinations that leave you smelling fresh. Last but not least, is raw organic local honey, which soothes the skin and draws moisture.
Mix and match the essential oil blends to fit your mood, preferences, and season. Simple, customizable, and totally low-tox; this scrub is self-care in a jar!
Once you make this recipe, you’ll never want to be without it. You’ll be left with glowing skin—and maybe a few extra jars to gift to friends, teachers, or anyone who needs a little natural TLC.

3 Benefits of Using a Honey Sugar Scrub
Why should you add a Honey Sugar Scrub to your shower routine? This step is optional, but I’m confident that it will become a must-have. Here are a few reasons why you should consider making this DIY.
1. Sugar Scrubs Are Exfoliating
Sugar is a gentle but powerful natural exfoliator. Over time, dead skin cells build up and cause dullness, clogged pores, and even body acne. Exfoliating clears away dead skin cells, allowing your skin to breathe and enabling your moisturizers to work more effectively.
2. Sugar Scrubs Are Moisturizing
Harsh scrubs can strip your skin, but this one won’t! The scrub’s carrier oils soak deep into the skin, giving it extra hydration and softness.
Use this honey sugar scrub a few times a week and you’ll feel the difference immediately.
3. Raw Organic Local Honey is a Skin Superhero
Let’s talk about the real star: raw organic local honey. It’s loaded with antioxidants and is naturally antibacterial, perfect for calming the skin, fading scars, and giving your skin that “just-left-the-spa” glow.
1 Low-Tox Recipe, 3 Different Uses
This honey sugar scrub is a multitasker! Here are just a few ways you can use it.
All Over Body Scrub
To tap into the exfoliation power of this scrub, you can use shower exfoliation gloves. Some exfoliation gloves are softer than others, so choose a pair that suits your skin’s sensitivity. If the grain is too rough for you, your skin may feel irritated.
Prepare your skin for a cleansing exfoliation without toxins by pairing it with my moisturizing body wash and following up with my favorite body cream.
Foot Scrub
Perfect for sandal season! This scrub soothes tired feet, leaving them feeling brand new.
If you want a low-tox pedicure, bring a jar of Honey Sugar Scrub to your aesthetician. From my experience, they are more than happy to accommodate, and most ask for the recipe!
Lip Scrub
This recipe makes an excellent lip scrub! Our lips need gentle exfoliation, especially in colder climates. Lip scrubs are currently in high demand, and you can customize yours to suit a variety of needs. Try adding lavender or rose essential oil for a calming experience!
I love making this as a gift for my friends and family. It looks beautiful next to a jar of my anti-aging cream! If you’re making this for just one person, I’d recommend cutting the recipe in fourths.
Best Non-Toxic Ingredients for Scrubs
Sugar scrubs are so easy to make, and they include the yummiest ingredients! Here’s what this recipe calls for.
Raw Organic Local Honey: To get the full benefits that honey offers, purchase it in its natural form. Raw organic local honey has been minimally processed and retains most of its skin-healing properties.
Processed honey often contains added sugars and fillers that can overpower any potential benefits. It’s always best to shop local if you can!
If you’re looking for a vegan sugar scrub without honey, try this recipe!
Organic Fair Trade Sugar: We prefer to use organic, Fair Trade sugar in our scrubs to provide our skin with the best ingredients—pure, high-quality, and ethically sourced. It’s gentle enough for sensitive skin and works hard to exfoliate without irritation.
Choosing Fair Trade also means you’re supporting sustainable farming and fair labor practices, which makes this recipe good for the planet and the people behind the product.
Mama Z’s Essential Oil Base or Extra-Virgin and Unrefined Coconut Oil: I’m always partial to using my essential oil base in these recipes because it’s moisturizing without being overly slick. Another favorite of mine is extra-virgin and unrefined coconut oil. These are my top recommendations as they have the best viscosity.
If you don’t have these options on hand, you can use your favorite carrier oil. Sweet almond, jojoba, or fractionated coconut oil work wonderfully!
Essential Oils: A custom blend of essential oils gives the Honey Sugar Scrub a luxurious scent without chemicals. I’ve included a few great blends in this post, but you can easily substitute with your favorite mix.
I encourage you to consider your health needs and make your Honey Sugar Scrub work for you. For example, if you need a little peace in your life, add lavender or Roman chamomile. If you’re looking to blast fat, use lime essential oil.
4 Essential Oil Blends You Have to Try!
Here are some of my favorite essential oil blends for Honey Sugar Scrubs. Feel free to substitute with any of our signature essential oil blends.
I love matching my body care products to the season, going with floral scents in the spring, tropical for summer, warm spices for fall, and jolly blends for winter. Get creative and see what you come up with!
- Allergy Relief Blend: To find relief during the ever-annoying allergy season, use 5 drops each of lavender, lemon, and peppermint essential oil.
- Happy Blend: If you need a blend that will put a smile on your face, use 3 drops each of bergamot, grapefruit, lemon, orange, and vanilla absolute essential oil. If you don’t have one of these citrus oils, any combination of the above oils (15 drops total) will work!
- Romantic Blend: To put yourself in a romantic state of mind, use 5 drops each of lavender, rose, and ylang-ylang essential oil.
- Sleepy-Time Blend: For a restful night’s sleep, use 5 drops each of lavender, Roman chamomile, and vetiver.
