Parasite Cleanse Protocol Smoothie Recipe for Gut Health

Reading Time: 12 minutes
QUICK SUMMARY

The Parasite Cleanse Protocol Smoothie is Mama Z’s food-based gut reset for those beautiful-but-messy family moments: creek adventures, muddy hands, questionable water exposure, travel, post-swimming funk, stomach bugs, or seasons when digestion feels off.

Parasites can spread through everyday exposures like contaminated food, water, soil, animals, insects, surfaces, and close contact. Giardia, one of the best-known intestinal parasites, spreads easily through contaminated water, food, surfaces, objects, and person-to-person contact. Swimming-related illness can also happen when kids swallow contaminated pool, splash pad, lake, river, or creek water. (1, 2, 3, 4)

This smoothie combines organic greens, avocado, bone broth protein, unsweetened plant milk, frozen fruit, amla, activated charcoal with zeolite, and food-grade diatomaceous earth to support digestion, elimination, antioxidant defenses, toxin binding, and a healthy gut environment. It’s not about living in fear. It’s about walking in wisdom, nourishing your family well, and using the God-given tools of real food, clean water, hygiene, prayer, and mama discernment.

Let’s be real, life with kids is full of beautiful chaos. Between creek adventures, muddy hands, barefoot garden days, public playgrounds, and “what did you just put in your mouth?!” moments, it’s no surprise our little ones occasionally end up with upset tummies…or worse, unwelcome little guests. That’s why I created my Parasite Cleanse Protocol Smoothie.

As a mama of seven, I’ve learned how important it is to be proactive when it comes to gut health. We don’t wait for things to spiral; we meet them head-on with nourishment and wisdom. And that’s where this smoothie comes in.

Whether it’s a suspected stomach bug, post-swimming funk, a travel reset, or you just feel like your digestion is off, this Parasite Cleanse Protocol Smoothie is my go-to reset. It’s mama-formulated, doctor-approved, and kid-tested. Even little Isaac asks for it, and it was a total game-changer after Ezekiel took a gulp of contaminated stagnant creek water. Yes, that really happened!

Let’s talk about why intestinal parasites are more common than many families realize, what symptoms can look like, and how the right ingredients can help your body gently fight back while rebuilding the gut.

Why Do Parasites Invade?

Parasites aren’t just something you pick up traveling abroad; they’re a lot closer to home than most of us realize. These tiny invaders can sneak in through all kinds of everyday activities: eating unwashed produce or contaminated food, drinking unfiltered water, consuming undercooked meat, walking barefoot in contaminated soil, letting the kids play in the creek, handling pets, or touching contaminated surfaces and then grabbing a snack. The CDC lists animals, food, insects, and water as common ways parasites can spread, and Giardia can spread through contaminated water, food, surfaces, objects, and person-to-person contact. (1, 2)

And here’s the tricky part: parasites aren’t always obvious. You may not see worms or bugs in the bathroom, but your gut can still be irritated, depleted, and struggling after exposure to contaminated food, soil, or water.

This is especially important for families because kids are explorers. They swim, dig, climb, garden, share snacks, touch everything, forget to wash hands, and sometimes swallow water they absolutely should not swallow. CDC healthy swimming guidance notes that you can get sick from germs in water, and people at higher risk include children, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. (4)

Once inside the body, parasites and waterborne germs can cause a surprising list of symptoms:

  • Digestive symptoms like bloating, gas, cramping, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, or loose stools
  • Food cravings, especially sugar and carbs, when the gut and blood sugar are out of balance
  • Chronic fatigue, sluggishness, or feeling depleted after a tummy episode
  • Skin issues like eczema, rashes, or irritation when the immune system is aggravated
  • Brain fog, irritability, or mood swings when digestion and sleep are disrupted
  • Trouble sleeping, restlessness, or nighttime itching, especially with pinworms in kids

Giardia infection may cause diarrhea, gas, greasy floating stool, stomach cramps, upset stomach, nausea, dehydration, and fatigue, though some people have no symptoms at all. Pinworm infection is especially common in preschool and school-age children and can cause itching around the anus, often at night, which may lead to restlessness and sleep trouble. (3, 5)

The truth is, a weakened gut is like an open door for intestinal parasites to settle in and multiply. And in our modern world, where stress is high, immune systems are taxed, sleep is often lacking, and processed foods are the norm, it’s easier than ever for these invaders to take hold.

But don’t worry. The good news is that God gave us so much of what we need to fight back with wisdom: real food, clean water, healthy elimination, herbs, minerals, rest, prayer, and practical daily habits.

Your immune system is your body’s first line of defense, and it’s powerful when it’s well-supported. But when that system is compromised due to stress, sugar crashes, antibiotics, lack of sleep, poor diet, or repeated exposure, it needs backup. And that’s where food-based protocols come in.

Reality check: not every tummy ache is parasites. Not every craving means worms. And not every detox symptom means “die-off.” If symptoms are severe, persistent, unusual, or happening after known contaminated water exposure, testing can be wise. The CDC notes that three or more stool samples collected on separate days may be needed when checking for parasites because one sample can miss them. (6)

This isn’t about fear…it’s about wisdom. We’re not trying to live in a bubble; we’re just doing what we can to create a clean internal environment that doesn’t welcome parasitic infections.

That’s why I created this smoothie. It’s not just filling, it’s fortifying. Every sip is packed with detoxifying nutrients, gut-loving greens, detox-supporting binders, and natural ingredients that support your body’s ability to bind, cleanse, and rebuild. It’s gentle enough for kids, effective enough for adults, and smart enough to use proactively whenever your family’s had a higher exposure risk.

Think of it like a deep-clean for your digestive system done the way God intended: through real food, natural remedies, and a little bit of mama wisdom.

All-Natural Parasite-Eliminating Smoothie Ingredients

Here’s what makes this smoothie such a powerful part of our parasite protocol: it’s not just a tasty treat, it’s a carefully crafted blend of ingredients that help your body bind toxins, support digestion, and eliminate unwanted guests naturally. Every single ingredient was chosen with purpose to nourish your gut, boost your immune system, support bowel regularity, and gently sweep out what doesn’t belong.

This isn’t just something we whip up when a tummy bug hits; it’s part of how we proactively care for our family’s health, especially after creek days, public play areas, questionable water exposure, travel, or seasonal transitions when immune systems can take a hit. And best of all? The kids actually ask for it.

Let’s break down what’s inside and why it works…

Organic Super Greens Powder: Chlorophyll-rich greens are your gut’s best friend. They help bring fiber, minerals, antioxidants, and plant compounds into the diet, which is exactly what the gut needs when you’re trying to support elimination. Dietary fiber is fermented by the gut microbiota into beneficial metabolites, including short-chain fatty acids, which help support gut health. (7)

Our super greens powder from Dr. Z’s favorite brand, a cereal-free and adaptogenic dietary supplement, adds an extra layer of detox and energy support. If you prefer, you can make your own, which is the most budget-friendly option. Put simply, greens help build the kind of internal terrain where your body can cleanse, rebuild, and stay resilient.

Organic Avocado: Healthy fat-based foods like avocado help nourish the gut, stabilize blood sugar, and support nutrient absorption, key when you’re healing from any kind of gut imbalance. A randomized clinical study found that daily avocado intake altered gastrointestinal bacteria and was associated with greater fecal short-chain fatty acids and lower fecal bile acids. (8) Fats also help you feel satisfied, so your kids are less likely to ask for sugary snacks after drinking this.

Bone Broth Protein: We use bone broth protein that’s grass-fed and grass-finished. It’s rich in collagen-derived amino acids, including glycine and proline, which your body uses to build and repair connective tissue. A healthy gut wall is part of a healthy defense system, and clean protein helps make this smoothie rebuilding instead of just sweet.

Organic Unsweetened Almond or Coconut Milk Beverage: Plant-based milk is a key part of our healthy diet. We like Califia Farms, but any clean, unsweetened almond or coconut milk will do. It keeps the smoothie creamy and dairy-free, which can be helpful for families who notice that dairy triggers bloating, gas, diarrhea, or discomfort. Lactose intolerance can cause digestive symptoms after consuming milk or milk products, so an unsweetened dairy-free base can be a smart option for sensitive tummies. (9)

Organic Smoothie Bag (Your favorite frozen organic fruits): Frozen organic fruits like berries, mango, or banana help make this smoothie tasty enough that your kids will actually want to drink it. Plus, berries and other colorful fruits bring polyphenols and antioxidants that support the immune system and gut health. Research continues to show a meaningful relationship between dietary polyphenols, the gut microbiota, and health-supportive microbial metabolites. (10)

Organic EG Greens (Indian Gooseberry / Amla): Developed by our friend Dr. Cyrus Khambatta of Mastering Diabetes, this powder is made from amla, also called Indian gooseberry, which is one of the most antioxidant-rich foods on the planet. Amla contains vitamin C, gallic acid, ascorbic acid, phenolic compounds, and other antioxidant constituents. (11) Oxidative stress weakens your resilience and creates an internal environment where you don’t feel your best. Amla helps strengthen your internal defenses.

TrueCarbon Cleanse (Activated Charcoal + Zeolite): Formulated by Warren Phillips, aka The Non-Toxic Dad, this binder contains zeolite and activated charcoal to grab onto unwanted compounds in the digestive tract and support elimination. Activated charcoal is well known for its adsorptive capacity in the gastrointestinal tract, where it can bind many drugs and toxins and reduce absorption when used properly. (12) Clinoptilolite zeolite has also been studied for safety and potential detoxification-related applications. (13)

Application: because binders can bind more than just “bad stuff,” take charcoal or zeolite away from medications, supplements, and essential oil capsules unless your practitioner tells you otherwise. In our home, we keep binders separate from daily supplements so we’re not accidentally sweeping out nutrients we meant to keep.

Organic Food-Grade Diatomaceous Earth: This is the hero of the parasite protocol. Diatomaceous earth, or DE, is a fine powder made from fossilized algae called diatoms, and food-grade DE is different from pool-grade or industrial-grade DE. We only use food-grade DE – never industrial grade! DE is rich in silica and acts like a natural internal broom. (14)

The proposed action of DE is physical, not pharmaceutical. Animal research in organically raised hens found that dietary diatomaceous earth had potential to help control parasite load and improve production measures. (15) Human research for internal parasite cleansing is limited, so we use DE wisely: food-grade only, conservative amounts, plenty of hydration, and always as part of a broader gut-supportive protocol.

Here’s the thing: a parasite cleanse smoothie is not just about “killing.” It’s about terrain. We want the body hydrated, bowels moving, bile flowing, nutrients coming in, binders doing their job, and the gut lining supported. That’s how we help the body cleanse without overwhelming the system.

Be Proactive!

Don’t wait until someone in the house is doubled over with tummy aches or showing strange symptoms to start thinking about parasites. Instead of treating this as a one-time reaction to sickness, make parasite cleansing a regular part of your family’s wellness rhythm.

Using ingredients like organic greens, bone broth, activated charcoal, and diatomaceous earth on a consistent basis helps your body stay in detox mode, naturally sweeping out what doesn’t belong before it becomes a bigger issue.

You don’t have to do the full smoothie every single day, but sprinkling these ingredients into your weekly meals, snacks, or shakes keeps your gut strong and your immune system on guard.

We also recommend doing a more intentional parasite protocol once a year, twice a year if traveling internationally, especially during the spring and fall when our bodies are naturally more inclined toward detox. Think of it like seasonal deep cleaning, but for your insides!

You don’t have to live in fear of parasites; just stay a step ahead. When you support your system proactively, you give your body the best chance to thrive instead of just survive.

Need a Faster Option? Try the Kroeger Herbs Wormwood Kit

Let’s be honest, there are days when even blending a smoothie feels like too much. Whether you’re in the middle of character training, chasing toddlers, packing for a trip, or just plain exhausted, I get it. That’s why I always keep the Kroeger Herbs Wormwood Kit on hand as a backup. I do this parasite cleanse twice a year, if I’m not pregnant.

The Wormwood Kit is a powerful, herbal parasite cleanse that’s already pre-measured and easy to use. It combines wormwood, black walnut hull, cloves, and other detox-supporting herbal supplements, some of the same ingredients traditionally used for parasite protocols for generations. Wormwood has a long history of traditional use, and modern research continues to evaluate Artemisia species for antiparasitic activity. (16) Clove and its major compound eugenol have also shown anti-Giardia activity in laboratory research, which helps explain why clove is so often paired with wormwood and black walnut in traditional parasite protocols. (17)

These herbs and spices are traditionally used to target parasites at different stages of their life cycle. It’s a great option if you’re traveling, low on groceries, or just need a break from smoothie-making.

We’ve used the Kroeger kit during busy seasons, and it’s been a reliable parasite cleanse in our natural health toolkit. Just remember to follow the instructions carefully and always consult your naturopath or functional medicine doc before starting any cleanse, especially if you’re pregnant, nursing, trying to conceive, giving it to children, taking medications, or dealing with liver, kidney, seizure, or complex health issues.

Your Home Is Your Healing Place

God has given us everything we need to care for our families, right from the earth He created. With a little preparation, a few trusted products, and the willingness to listen to your mama instincts, you can take proactive steps to protect your home and your little ones from parasites and tummy bugs.

Remember: it’s not about living in fear, it’s about walking in wisdom.

Start with the basics that matter most:

  • Wash hands after bathroom trips, diaper changes, animal care, gardening, outdoor play, and before eating.
  • Use clean, filtered drinking water, especially when traveling or after storms, flooding, camping, or questionable water exposure.
  • Teach kids not to swallow creek, lake, pool, splash pad, river, ocean, or bath water.
  • Wash produce well and choose organic when you can, especially for greens and berries.
  • Cook meat and seafood thoroughly, and be extra careful with undercooked meat during pregnancy.
  • Keep shoes on in questionable soil and wash up after garden play.
  • Support daily elimination with fiber-rich foods, hydration, movement, and sleep.
  • Make prayer, rest, and stress relief part of your family wellness plan, because the body cleanses and rebuilds best when it is not running on fumes.

Whether you’re a mama of one or seven, I hope this smoothie gives you the confidence to nourish your family well. And if you’re in the thick of it right now—with tummy troubles, sleepless nights, or post-swim sniffles, just know: you’re not alone.

You’ve got this, Mama. 💛

“The Lord will perfect that which concerns me.” – Psalm 138:8 NKJV
This has been my prayer through pregnancy, postpartum, and all the everyday moments in between…and He always shows up.

Parasite Cleanse Smoothie FAQs

What is a parasite cleanse smoothie?

A parasite cleanse smoothie is a food-based drink made with ingredients that support gut health, bowel regularity, antioxidant defenses, toxin binding, and elimination. This version uses greens, avocado, bone broth protein, unsweetened plant milk, organic fruit, amla, activated charcoal with zeolite, and food-grade diatomaceous earth.

Can a smoothie kill parasites?

A smoothie is best viewed as gut and detox support, not a stand-alone protocol for a confirmed parasitic infection. Some herbs and plant compounds have shown antiparasitic activity in lab, animal, or traditional-use research, but confirmed infections may require testing and targeted care. Use this smoothie to support your body’s cleansing pathways, digestion, and resilience.

How often should my family drink this smoothie?

Use it proactively after higher-risk exposure, such as creek play, travel, questionable water, tummy bugs, or seasonal cleanse times. Some families use it several days in a row during a reset, while others rotate it into the week. Hydration and regular bowel movements are key whenever you use binders or DE.

Can kids drink the Parasite Cleanse Protocol Smoothie?

This smoothie was created with family use in mind, and our kids love it. For young children, start small, keep the texture pleasant, and use age-appropriate amounts of any binders or DE. For babies, toddlers, children with medical conditions, or children on medication, check with your practitioner first.

Is food-grade diatomaceous earth the same as pool-grade diatomaceous earth?

No. Only use food-grade diatomaceous earth for internal protocols. Never ingest pool-grade or industrial-grade DE. Also avoid inhaling DE powder, because fine powders can irritate the lungs.

Do I need activated charcoal or zeolite in the smoothie?

They are helpful binders, but they should be used intentionally. Activated charcoal can bind many substances in the digestive tract, which is why it should be taken away from medications and supplements unless your practitioner says otherwise. (12)

Can I do this parasite protocol while pregnant or nursing?

Do not use wormwood parasite kits while pregnant, and talk with your midwife, doctor, or functional practitioner before using binders, DE, or strong herbs while pregnant or nursing. Nourishing foods, clean water, handwashing, and gut-supportive meals are still wonderful, but pregnancy is not the time to push aggressive cleansing.

What should I do after my child swallows creek, lake, or pool water?

Watch for diarrhea, vomiting, fever, stomach cramps, dehydration, unusual fatigue, or symptoms that last more than a couple of days. Swallowing contaminated recreational water can lead to swimming-related illness. (4) Support hydration and digestion, and contact your health-care provider if symptoms are severe, persistent, or concerning.

How do I prevent parasites naturally at home?

Focus on clean water, handwashing, properly cooked food, washed produce, shoes in questionable soil, safe swimming habits, regular bowel movements, and a healthy gut. Prevention is not glamorous, but it works. This is biblical health in everyday life: faithful stewardship in the little things.
