Researchers from Georgetown University Medical Center tested several essential-oil formulations in diabetic and hypertensive rats. The oils included:

  • Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum)

  • Cumin (Cuminum cyminum)
  • Oregano (Origanum vulgare)

Essential oils can be used to intensify appetite suppression. And if you're taking GLP-1s, use caution before ingesting essential oils.

Topical and inhalation use pose minimal risk, and they support stress, nausea comfort, movement routines, or emotional eating patterns. Just note that strong aromas may worsen nausea when a GLP-1 medication is already causing digestive symptoms.

Medicinal internal use of essential oils requires extra caution because delayed gastric emptying can affect digestion and the timing of orally administered products. Anyone using semaglutide, tirzepatide, dulaglutide, liraglutide, or another GLP-1-based therapy should discuss internal essential-oil protocols and concentrated supplements with the prescribing clinician.

There is another issue we cannot ignore: unapproved and fraudulent compounded products. In June 2026, the FDA warned about fraudulent compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide products with false labeling and nonexistent or misidentified pharmacies. Use a properly prescribed product from a verified source and follow the exact dosing device and instructions. (13)

Application: If you use a GLP-1 medication, build a plan around preserving muscle, nourishing your body, staying hydrated, monitoring glucose, managing side effects, and developing habits that can support you whether the medication continues or eventually stops.

Blood Sugar-Balancing Essential Oils
