There’s nothing better than a simple summer berry smoothie recipe when the weather warms up. It’s cool, refreshing, naturally sweet, and easy to make in just a few minutes.

Smoothies are one of our favorite ways to help the whole family enjoy more fruits, greens, healthy fats, and superfoods. Kids love choosing their own smoothie combinations, and parents love knowing those bright, beautiful cups are full of real nutrition.

And here’s the Mama Z secret: they’ll never guess they’re getting a serving of our Super Greens Powder!

Healthy Berry Smoothie Recipe Additions

This berry smoothie is delicious as written, but smoothies are also one of the easiest recipes to customize. You can keep it simple for picky eaters, make it greener for a deeper nutrient boost, or turn it into a more filling breakfast with healthy fats and protein-rich toppings.

Here are some of our favorite superfood smoothie additions. Note that some of these ingredients will create a greener smoothie, as shown above.

You can also customize this berry smoothie based on what’s in season, what’s in your freezer, or what your kids are willing to try. Swap the frozen mixed berries for strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, cherries, fresh mulberries, or a combination.

Want it extra refreshing? Add a sprig of mint from the garden. Want it more filling? Add chia seeds, hemp hearts, raw nuts, or unsweetened almond butter. Want a deeper greens boost? Add spinach, kale, frozen zucchini, or frozen okra.

We recommend using at least one frozen ingredient to keep your smoothie thick, creamy, and cold without needing a lot of ice. You could also reduce the Cancer-Fighting Super Greens Mix amount to 1 tablespoon and add 1 tablespoon of our Super Food Reds Powder. This increases the number of superfoods, and the fruity powders in our red blend complement the bananas perfectly!

Allergy-Friendly Ingredients for Berry Smoothies

This berry smoothie recipe uses simple, allergy-friendly ingredients to create one filling breakfast or snack. It is naturally dairy-free, gluten-free, and easy to make nut-free by choosing coconut milk or another safe milk alternative.

Here’s why we chose each ingredient.

Organic Bananas: Bananas are budget-friendly, kid-approved, and wonderful for creating a naturally sweet, creamy smoothie. Their fiber acts as a prebiotic, which means it helps feed beneficial gut bacteria. (1)

For the sweetest smoothie, use ripe bananas with brown spots. Those “ugly” bananas are often the best smoothie bananas because they blend smoothly and taste dessert-like without added sugar.

Organic Mixed Berries: Frozen berries are one of the best freezer staples you can keep on hand. They work beautifully in smoothies, oatmeal, yogurt bowls, chia pudding, and healthy desserts.

Berries are rich in antioxidants and polyphenols that help fight free radicals and support inflammatory balance. (2) Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and cherries each bring their own color, flavor, and protective plant compounds.

This is important: color is nutrition. Those deep reds, purples, and blues are signs of God-given plant compounds that help protect the body from oxidative stress.

Organic Greens: Adding greens is one of the easiest ways to turn a fruit smoothie into a true superfood smoothie. Spinach and kale are our favorites because they blend well and offer powerful nutritional benefits.

Spinach contains compounds studied for their ability to slow cancer growth. (3) It also provides minerals and plant compounds that support everyday wellness.

Kale belongs to the cruciferous vegetable family and contains cancer-fighting compounds activated when the leaves are chopped, crushed, or chewed. (4) Blending helps break down the greens, which makes this a simple way to enjoy cruciferous nutrition.

Organic Avocado: Avocado is the secret to a creamy, satisfying smoothie. Just ½ an avocado adds healthy fats and a silky texture that helps keep you full longer.

Avocados are associated with better diet quality and may support healthy weight management. (5) They are also a smart way to help balance the natural sugars from fruit.

In America, avocados are often linked with guacamole and savory meals, but in many cultures they are also used in sweet recipes. They add richness without overpowering the flavor.

Want to see for yourself? Try our Avocado Chocolate Mousse! You’ve never had a pudding like this before. If you don’t have fresh avocados on hand, frozen avocado works well in smoothies.

Mama Z’s Cancer-Fighting Super Greens Powder: This amazing super greens powder contains cancer-fighting ingredients. A few stand-out elements include:

Adding one serving of Super Greens Powder to this smoothie gives your body an extra boost! This DIY mix is one of the most beneficial things you can add to your pantry shelves.

Organic Unsweetened Almond or Coconut-Milk Beverage: We avoid traditional milk to keep this recipe dairy-free. Almond or coconut milk has a smooth taste, and you’re avoiding hormones that tend to leech into dairy.

When choosing your beverage, be sure to grab the unsweetened variety. You wouldn’t believe the amount of sugar hiding in other types!

Make a Super Food Summer Berry Smoothie

This recipe takes just 5 minutes to prepare and makes enough for one person. It is simple enough for even novice chefs to create.

You can make individual smoothie packs by placing the banana, berries, super greens powder, spinach, and avocado in a small freezer bag. When it’s time to make breakfast, all you have to do is add almond milk and blend!

Summer Berry Smoothie FAQs

What is the healthiest berry smoothie?

The healthiest berry smoothie includes whole-food ingredients like organic berries, banana, leafy greens, avocado, unsweetened dairy-free milk, and optional superfoods such as chia seeds, hemp hearts, cacao, or greens powder. This combination gives you fiber, antioxidants, healthy fats, and plant-based nutrients without added refined sugar.

Can I make this berry smoothie without banana?

Yes. Replace the banana with frozen mango, frozen cauliflower, extra berries, or ½ avocado plus a few drops of liquid stevia if you want more sweetness. Banana adds creaminess and sweetness, but the recipe is flexible.

Can I use fresh berries instead of frozen berries?

Yes, fresh berries work well. For the best texture, use at least one frozen ingredient, such as frozen banana, frozen berries, frozen avocado, or a few ice cubes.

How do I make a berry smoothie thicker?

Use frozen fruit, reduce the milk slightly, add avocado, include chia seeds, or blend in a spoonful of almond butter. Letting chia seeds sit for a few minutes after blending can also thicken the smoothie.

How do I make this smoothie kid-friendly?

Start with more berries and banana, use mild greens like spinach, and keep stronger add-ins like matcha or turmeric very light. Let kids choose one topping or add-in so they feel involved.

Can I make smoothie packs ahead of time?

Yes. Add the banana, berries, greens, avocado, and greens powder to freezer bags or containers. When ready to blend, dump the pack into your blender, add dairy-free milk, and blend until smooth.

Is this smoothie good for breakfast?

Yes. This smoothie makes a refreshing breakfast, especially when you include avocado, chia seeds, hemp hearts, almond butter, or raw nuts for staying power.

Can I add protein powder?

Yes, you can add a clean protein powder if desired. Choose one without artificial sweeteners, synthetic flavors, or unnecessary fillers. Start with a small amount so it does not overpower the berry flavor.

Is this recipe dairy-free?

Yes. This berry smoothie uses unsweetened almond or coconut milk instead of dairy milk, making it a great option for dairy-free families.

What greens are best in berry smoothies?

Spinach is the mildest and best for beginners. Kale adds more cruciferous benefits but has a stronger flavor. You can also use baby greens, romaine, or a small amount of frozen zucchini or okra.

Final Thoughts

This summer berry smoothie is proof that healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated. With a few simple ingredients, you can create a cool, creamy, naturally sweet recipe that helps your family enjoy more fruit, greens, antioxidants, fiber, and healthy fats.

Smoothies are also a wonderful way to teach kids that biblical health is joyful, colorful, and delicious. Start with real food, choose organic ingredients when possible, avoid hidden sugars, and customize the recipe to fit your family’s needs.

Whether you enjoy it for breakfast, an afternoon snack, or a refreshing summer treat, this berry smoothie is an easy step toward the abundant life.
