3 Reasons to Try a Face Mask
It can be hard to think of adding one more thing to your to-do list, but I promise you that this mask is well worth the effort! Here are my favorite reasons to use a face mask.
1. Promotes Relaxation
Applying a face mask is an activity that signals “slow down” to your brain. Just the art of creating a DIY can be peaceful! I like to make face masks a part of my weekly routine. I draw a warm detox bath, put on my favorite playlist, and relax. Sometimes, I’ll even use a bath bomb or meditate on Scripture. Try it! You’re sure to leave the tub feeling ready to tackle whatever life brings your way.
2. Detoxes Your Skin
Besides promoting relaxation, face masks can detox and transform your skin, especially when you add essential oils! The ingredients I chose for this face mask are timeless and have been used to help thousands of people find better skin. This particular face mask is excellent for tightening the pores and healing.
3. A Great Bonding Tool
I’m sure you’ve seen many movies that feature girls in face masks at a sleepover. They’re a great bonding tool! Double the ingredients of this recipe, and invite your friends over for healthy snacks and spa time. This recipe is also kid-friendly, so you can use it on your daughter as well. Face masks are well known to induce girl chat, so prepare for a heart-to-heart!
Complexion-Friendly Facial Ingredients
This recipe is straightforward. You only need three ingredients! Here’s why I chose each component.
Organic Coconut Oil: Coconut oil is a saturated fat taken from coconut seeds. Coconut is already a widely popular oil in many households, with most people using it in their culinary creations. The best part about using coconut oil in face masks is that it will deeply moisturize the skin, but it won’t leave it greasy.
Many skin concerns, such as acne, are caused by an overabundance of bacteria. Coconut oil is high in lauric acid, which can block bacteria from growing. (1) Putting this oil on your skin can eradicate bacteria and heal your skin. I use coconut oil in many of my DIYs because of its versatility.
It’s important to use carrier oils whenever you apply essential oils to the skin. Carrier oils dilute the EOs, making them more effective! Coconut oil acts as the dispersant in this face mask and keeps the essential oils from evaporating off the skin. This gives them more time to enter your system evenly.
Raw Honey: Raw honey is an antiseptic (2), so it perfectly complements the coconut oil’s bacteria-fighting power! Honey is a great ingredient to use in your masks because it helps brighten the skin. People have used raw honey medicinally for years to help treat infections, prevent illnesses, and more. Plus, it has a pleasant smell!
When purchasing honey, it is essential to get raw honey. Raw honey comes straight from the hive and has minimal processing. Manufacturers process honey just enough to get rid of the honeycomb debris! Regular honey has been processed extensively and often includes added sugars. These additions make honey less effective medicinally.
Lemon Essential Oil: Lemon essential oil is high in d-limonene, which is a powerful antioxidant. Lemon is a favorite oil in our house because it does everything from removing sticky substances to freshening clothing! When used in this recipe, it will help brighten your skin and improve the overall tone.
Using a Facial Mask in Your Skincare Routine
Are you curious about how this face mask can fit into your skincare routine? Here are my tips! You can do this skincare routine once a week to ensure that your skin doesn’t get too “used” to the essential oil.
- First, wash your face with a non-toxic facial cleanser. I recommend using my Foaming Facial Cleanser. It’s sudsy and feels luxurious.
- Then, tone your face to balance the skin’s PH. You can effortlessly do this; no need for fancy ingredients. I often use a cotton round doused in Apple cider vinegar. It works great!
- After you’ve toned your face, apply the face mask. Let it sit for about 15 minutes and rinse thoroughly with warm water.
- Finally, if your skin needs extra moisture, hydrate with a silky toxin-free moisturizer. My ultimate favorite is my Anti-Aging Cream and Skin Healing Serum. This DIY can make cancer spots disappear…literally!
