Best Essential Oils for Hair Loss
When considering essential oils for hair loss, great options are invigorating oils that stimulate the scalp. You should also consider EOs that heal your scalp of dandruff and other infections that could be inhibiting growth. Here are a few options to include in your daily routine.
Tea Tree: This powerhouse essential oil is anti-fungal and can help heal your scalp of issues that cause itchiness. (1) The more you itch your head, the more hair falls out!
Tea tree is clarifying and can help prevent product build-up.
Peppermint: Peppermint is one of the most invigorating essential oils and can help with blood flow. Studies have shown that applying peppermint EO to your hair can increase the overall number of follicles and the thickness of the hair shaft itself. (2)
Bonus: Peppermint is a great scent that helps you wake up and get that to-do list accomplished!
Rosemary: People who struggle with hair loss invest massive amounts of money in regrowth products. What if I told you that rosemary essential oil works as well as a best-selling hair growth treatment? (3)
This EO beats conventional hair growth treatments because you’re not exposing your body to harmful toxins that can worsen symptoms!
Rosemary is one of my favorite essential oils for hair loss because it leaves your hair looking shiny and healthy.
Geranium: This essential oil has a unique, calming floral scent. Like tea tree, it contains antimicrobial properties that can help heal your scalp. (4) This essential oil is excellent at battling frizz!
Lavender: Lavender is the ultimate calming oil. Many times, hair loss is accompanied by an inflamed scalp. This essential oil can help soothe irritations and relieve itching as this study in allergic responses indicates. (5)
This is one of the most popular essential oils because it does so many things. I recommend adding it to your EO inventory!
Many DIY shampoos and conditioners use these oils to promote healthy hair and a clean scalp. I also use some of these in my homemade hairspray recipe, which you absolutely must try!
As always, it’s best to apply essential oils diluted. When you dilute your essential oils with a carrier oil, you’re doing your body a big favor!
Your system has time to process the EOs, giving you a better experience overall. Plus, dilution stretches your essential oils, making them last longer.
Hair Regrowth Gel Ingredient 101
This hair regrowth gel uses two simple ingredients to help you get your luscious locks in top shape! Here’s what you need to make this recipe.
Essential Oils: Instead of using artificial fragrances, we use essential oils to give our DIYs a delicious smell. I love using this gel because it always makes my hair smell heavenly! You can use any essential oils I recommended, or include other options like sandalwood, to create a custom scent.
Magnesium Gel: Magnesium is an excellent supplement for your body, and it does wonders for hair! This mineral helps clarify the scalp, and it promotes hair growth. Magnesium gel goes deep into hair follicles, literally dissolving excess build-up from hard water.
One study showed that participants who applied magnesium to their hair experienced over 50% increase in hair regrowth! (6) This ingredient is also a lot easier on your wallet than traditional hair growth treatments.
Be sure to use magnesium gel and not magnesium oil. The gel doesn’t add extra oil to your hair, while oil can make it look greasy. My favorite magnesium gel has seaweed extract, which gives your hair all the micronutrients it needs.
Make Hair Regrowth Gel With Essential Oils
This recipe comes together in minutes and is so easy to make. I love keeping my gel in an amber glass bottle with a dropper for easy application, but you can also use a PET plastic squeeze bottle.

- Store in a glass jar.
- Keep in the fridge for 1-2 weeks.
Notes
Step One: Add Ingredients to Bottle
Add the essential oils of choice and magnesium gel to your bottle. I prefer using a funnel to make it easier. Add your lid and shake well to mix.
Step Two: Apply to Scalp
I recommend using this mixture after showering. To use, massage a small amount of regrowth gel into your scalp. Style your hair as usual. This will not leave your hair feeling greasy, and you won’t be able to tell it’s there! Enjoy your gorgeous hair.
